eco peko gets your kids in on the eco act

As you can see this week is developing a “green” theme and we’re focusing on businesses who have as their base ethos, caring for the environment and living a sustainable life. Today I would like to introduce you to a lovely WA business, eco peko. And to sweeten the relationship before it even starts, Justine has generously offered all I love pretty things readers 10% off storewide until 10th March. All you have to do is enter the code “love” in at the checkout. Enjoy!

Introducing Justine …

I am mum to Levi & Loli, step-mum to Nathan & Callum, loving partner to John as well as mum and chief feeder to Bella (our labrador), 12 chooks (won’t name them all, but they do all have names) and our 2 rabbits… Loveheart and Sweetie.
I spend my days with my beautiful daughter (except when she is at kindy, which I still can’t get used to) and my nights dreaming of the endless possibilities …

You will see below that Justine goes to a lot of effort to have beautiful product shots - I love that!

What made you start eco peko?

My journey with eco peko started when my family and I wanted to make a tree-change and moved to the Perth Hills. We wanted to move to somewhere where we had a little piece of land to breathe, relax, grow veggies and have fresh eggs every day from our lovely chooks.

After living in Roleystone for a few months, I started a stall at the country markets selling tee-shirts that I had screen printed (with baby Loli in a cot at the back of the stall … great sales assistant!). After a few markets, I realized that I wanted to use organic cotton for my shirts and eco peko was born.

As a mum of two little eco angels, I was inspired to create a clothes line that was environmentally friendly, would suit both boys and girls, was soft, but also durable enough to be passed on through friends and family. As I like to say… “they may be too young to chain themselves to old growth trees or join the fight to save the whales … but the bubs in your life can take up the greenie cause by kitting themselves out in eco peko.

What inspires you?

I love my extended family.
I love growing vegies.
I love being ‘involved’.
I love it when my kids help each other.
I love chooks, trees and my backyard ….

Why are you so passionate about our environment?

I am passionate about the environment because I want a healthy and beautiful life for my children and theirs. There are very simple things that we can do to make a difference and I love sharing that with people. When you look at agriculture and industries, it can be very scary and disheartening, but the more people become aware, the better choices they can make as a consumer and the more change can be possible.

We reduce, reuse and recycle everything (between the dog, chooks, compost and worm farm we have no green waste at all) and my children love being involved.

What are your favourite products and why?

Bamboodie - $42.50 - it’s a great all round top. It’s UV reflective, anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic, light and silky soft. Bub can wear it to the beach, park or even bed! [Editor note: This is my favourite too – I bought one for Jaden to wear at the beach and in the sun and it’s brilliant

Organic t-shirts - $32.50 - The t-shirts are amazingly soft, wash up well, have a contemporary (and slightly cheeky) feel to them and they come in a very cute little hessian bag. There are loads of prints, but two of my faves are '100% organic & natural no pest inside' and 'my other shirt is a hybrid'

Organic denim jeans - $54.95 - I love these because they are a classic cut, that suit both boys and girls, are made from a high quality organic denim and are dyed using natural indigo...and they look so cute :)

Organic happy daks - $30 - These are super soft and because of the middle panel will last loads of sizes (as well as accommodating cloth nappies). My 4 and a half year old wears a size 2 (they are just a bit shorter :)
