A Manifesto for Mums

So this is day two of sorta shameless self promotion – I promise we will get back to regular programming tomorrow! I am just kinda proud of this little thing I have created and wanted to tell you all about it!

Where did “A Manifesto for Mums” come from? Well it came out of my head and my heart … but it was inspired by soooooo many people and places I consider it quite a collaboration!

First of all … me. As an adult, I was perhaps unusual in that ‘having children’ was something that I knew I would do one day, but it was never a major driver in my female brain. Frankly, I loved my pre-kid life and I struggled to see where they would fit in down the track. Well all those questions were answered and more when I became a mum. I had absolutely no idea how seriously awesome it could and would be. And I learnt that when you have kids, you find out what things are most important to you and you still make those things happen. And the not-so-important things … they are easily left by the wayside! Things like running really fast – clearly not as important to me as I thought!

Secondly my friends. I am just very blessed to have a very large, very supportive and totally non-judgmental group of girlfriends. We are all different, we all approach parenting very differently, and no one points fingers at anyone else and says “oh my god, they’re DOING IT WRONG”!

Thirdly, people I have come across via the internet. I love the concept of the manifesto which I first saw on the Women in Business and Build a Little Biz websites. I love the supportive, nurturing community they have over at Sunny Mummy. I am amazed and inspired by the thousands of amazing work-at-home-mums who showcase their wares at The Mummy Tree. And most of all, I have been super inspired by some of the lovely, talented, resourceful and creative WA ladies I have met through this blog (you know who you are FoF girls!!). Quite simply, you all made me want to CREATE SOMETHING!! An actual product for people. So that’s what I did.

I wrote A Manifesto for Mums in my head during many a morning run. Then I finally put some of those words down on paper. And then I trimmed and distilled till I felt I truly captured the most simple “words to live by” for mums. And then I got designing …

I hope you all like the finished product, because you all played a part in it :)

And thank you for your indulgence today! I will be back tomorrow to share the beautiful work of someone not me!

You can get it from The Smile Collective :)
